
Program Benefits
Builds self-esteem, boosts confidence and promotes a sense of personal accomplishment. Teaches effective non-verbal communication skills, enhances empathy and understanding, and builds a team between the teen and their canine companion. May be used as the first step to identifying a canine companion as a support animal.
Teen participants will learn the basics on how to train their dogs. The program is focused on safety and building a trusting relationship between your teen and their dog. Topics discussed: dog communication and body language, basic needs of your dog, the gold standard for dog training as well as proper leash handling and basic commands.
- Meets: weekly
- Program Session Length: 60 minutes per week for 6 weeks total
- Intended participants: Young people ages 13-18 (and their dog!)
- Equipment/supplies needed – Dog*, 6 foot leash with collar (NO retractable leashes or harnesses), treat pouch for around waist, high value meat treats – broken into small pieces (beef, chicken, bacon, etc)

*all dogs must have age-appropriate required vaccinations and be in good health.
This program is offered as a school or organization-sponsored activity, either during or outside of regular hours. We also offer a private, independent version of this program. Please see here for details and a schedule of current active circles.
